Times are a-changing 🎶

In the iconic words of Bob Dylan ‘the times, they are a-changing’ It was true in the sixties and it’s true now. The last 18 months have been a period of extreme change for all of us. Whether based on the Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne, New Zealand or further afield, as a Tribe we have experienced some incredible shifts.

From revelling in the joy of re-entering the ‘roaring twenties’ to being hit by the first wave of the pandemic, 2020 and 2021 have seen the start of a new era. One we’re being cut off from friends and family, wearing masks, cancelling trips last minute, accruing flight credits and avoiding large social gatherings, is the ‘norm’. As a raging extrovert - and someone who loves attending group classes and retreats – I’ve struggled adapting to these changes, and I know I’m not alone.

These unprecedented times have challenged us all, and collectively we have had to bend, sway and roll with the punches as best we can.

Take what’s happening across Australia currently – borders are being open and closed constantly, lockdowns enforced and extended…we’re unable to plan one day to the next. We’re forced to live moment to moment and, in many instances, adopt a more mindful, introverted lifestyle.

Whilst limitations and changes to our social situations have often borne the brunt of this Covid storm, it truly has impacted every aspect of our lives. For me personally, it’s resulted in some amazing shifts across my business this last year, of which I’m enormously proud.

Launching right before the Covid-19 outbreak, Carra Lee Active has gone through highs and lows alongside the rest of the world but is standing strong and weathering the storm. We have expanded in size and offerings and developed a truly loyal customer base – our Tribe – for whom I am forever grateful. We grew out of our store in Burleigh, began operating our online store from a dedicated warehouse space, and just recently have expanded once more – now working with a third-party warehouse and logistics team to ensure your orders are packed and shipped with the utmost efficiency.

While these changes have ultimately been positive ones, that’s not to say they’ve been easy to undergo! As with any change to your norm, there’s a period of adjustment and uncertainty. I’m not afraid to admit that navigating current social limitations, constant border restrictions, and the change in my business has found me in moments of overwhelm and anxiety. And it’s during these times I’ve turned to my support systems; my breath, my yoga and my ever-encouraging family and friends.

Now more than ever, we need to identify the things that bring us true joy and comfort in our lives; be it a short stroll, hot bath, nutritious meal, or gasbag with your girlfriends – these are the small but significant factors that play a large role in our daily experiences and emotions. So, I encourage you all to take a moment and reflect on what last put a smile on your face, what last lit you up.

Make a note of it. Carve out time in your day to experience more of it.

This is a habit that needs to be included within our new daily ‘norms’. The same way we mask up, sanitise, and check in to our local supermarkets, we need to be diligent about creating a safe and enjoyable space for ourselves, each day. And ensure we allow others to do the same.
